Jimmy Edgar "Dreamz Come True" EP

Over the period of two years, Jimmy has been building this new sound. Where rhythm was the primary in his dance music, he has flipped focus and intensely studied melody, chords and music theory. “Dreamz Come True” is the beginning of a new path; one that continues trajectory from his quintessential releases on Warp Records, over 10 years ago.

The third law of Metaphysix is titled Correspondence, which refers to a universal law that states “as above so below, and vice versa"—in other words, the universe is a fractal, and it's all connected. In this series, we look at the relationship and musical connection between Paris and Ultramajic. We invited our close friends to take part of this compilation, and we also have a new artist joining the ranks: Crystal Bandito.

This is the Ultramajic correspondence: Five ostensibly disparate producers from around the world translating similar musical ideas through cultural barriers. Label boss Jimmy Edgar finds a common ground with French talents Bambounou, French Fries, and Bobmo in rigid Chicago-influenced drum workouts, dusty drum hits, and staccato blasts. The two mysterious names on the track list, on the other hand—Aden and Crystal Bandito—offer a massive stomper with chunky hip-hop vocals and a unhinged techno tune with rashes of metallic percussion, respectively.

Vinyl repress of Jimmy Edgar "Shine"

For more than a decade, Jimmy Edgar has experimented in sound structure and design, utilising an array of digital and analog hardware to release delphic signings on Warp, !K7 and Hotflush. After launching his enigmatic label Ultramajic in 2013, the Detroit born space cadet delves into mystic philosophy with his latest metaphysical embodiment. Following on from Lando's July release, the forthcoming EP 'Shine' sees a continuation in pulsating chunky house chords with an industrialised varnish. The gargantuan brawn and weight of 'Let me tell you' and closing digital exclusive 'Tik Tok' ensure crowd-pleasing thump. This theme then slightly diverts, with the synthetic minimalism of 'The Dip Chair' and 'Two of Wands'. However, Edgar harks back to earlier influences in his career with 'Feel what it is', embodying Detroit house seen through R&B elements, reflective of his hometown influences.

DANCE SYSTEM goes live

System Preferences delineates L-Vis 1990's latest path through a multi-faceted musical career, harnessing his affiliation to Chicago's underground with a more futuristic complexion. October 23rd will see L-Vis 1990's alias, Dance System, follow-up his appearance on Ultramajic’s Metaphysix series with a full EP.

The driving exuberance of Safe Mode and Turbulence’s animated chords present the effervescent characteristics of any Ultramajic release. DOS 4 however curtails some of this freneticism, leaving space for tension building and narrative.
